PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS

My main aim is when producing your portrait is to create a piece of artwork that you can treasure forever. One of the most important aspects of commissioning your portrait is the quality of the reference photo. It should capture the way you think about your pet, but also be clear and show as much detail as possible for me to work from.

QUALITY
The first thing I look for in a photograph is quality. The more detail I can see in the photograph the better. I do need to be able to zoom into the eyes and nose, and to clearly see fur direction and colouring.

LIGHTING
It is best to take your pet photograph in natural light wherever possible, preferably on a bright but overcast day. Direct or harsh sunlight can bleach out important details and fur colouring, and please avoid using a flash.

LEVELS
Take the photograph at your pet’s eye level, and take a few pictures straight on. You can say their favourite word or make a silly noise to get their attention and try capturing that pose. Making sure your pets head and shoulders fill the frame, but try to stay a few feet away to avoid image distortion.
